The village sucked, but the happening was pretty good. Come on people, give it a chance, be smart for once. Also it doesn’t look that bad, and I actually got some chills when I seen all those fire nation ships. But of course I’m not getting my hopes up that high, it’s just a teaser.

Initial rumors are M Knight had a stellar cast of talented new actors that really fit the cartoon characters and plans to release two movies in order to stay true to the story line. But for whatever reason the cast was scrapped and the script kept to a kid friendly length and violence reduced. Not feeling this at all.
Why is this being compared to the DB movie? There’s completely unrelated.
They wanted to turn DB into an americanized kung fu movie; which sucked. This type of thing can’t be americanized. It’s still a military/adventure/fantasy movie. With a talented director. The main plot won’t be changed.
And why complain about him being white? It’s not an anime, so you can’t infer he’s Japanese. Not to mention there’s no such thing as Asia in Avatar-land, so there’s no reason for him to look Asain.
I wish I could place hope in this film. but any one with a brain or a least saw the dragonball movie would do wise to ignore this movie while hoping the original show comes back.
What i’d like to see the next story/setting is just switch perspective of the elements and political side for the “evil” element and avatar, set in the future or the past. Modern world even.
personally i’d like to see the next avater being fire learning the elements in reverse order with water being the “ignorant” nation trying to “cleanse” the other nations. in other words republican vs democrat, right vs left. it’s on;y fair.
hopping it will turn out good nyahahah…. not like dbz. but i think its much better….

i agree dudette no anime series means they r asian because in anime do they have slanted eyes with round faces no. So they can have white actors play them because if i saw the avatar as some asian dude i would /facepalm for about 9000+ hours. Though i do agree that this shoudnt be made into a childs movie that they should put alot of action in it.

I will probably watch this movie when it comes out to Video so i can rent it instead of wasting at least 20$ to see it in theaters.
Hmm. OK, I had almost no hope for this, but after seeing him actually USE a staff, it might be worth watching. He doesn’t look that bad in terms of being Aang, so I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see if any of the other characters suck or not.
This looks significantly better than the DBZ movie. So long as they don’t take artistic license with the character’s appearances too much to heart *cough*Roku*cough*…
Movie looks interesting. I haven’t seen much of the series at all, but its hard to tell with just a teaser. I’ve only seen a couple episodes. I would like it say this is a fail, but I cant since I haven’t seen the actual show and nothing more than a teaser.
But since some of people saying this is an epic fail and trying to compare it to DBZ’s fail. I would say wait it out.
Because DBZ was REALLY AN EPIC FAIL! That movie was horrible. Some American actors playing Japanese rolls. Director didnt have much movie background.
M. Night Shyamalan has more director experience and has made a quite more movies than James Wong.
EDIT: This will suck if they try to wrap the entire series together into one movie. They need more for the 20+ hours of content from the anime.
I’m just disappointed Ang is a white kid. Avatar is based on various Asian cultures and having a white kid at the center of it all just blows. It seems those rich white folks at Hollywood are behind yet another movie that will flop monumentally.

Yeah… this movie will guarenteed suck. Although the entire series is based on eastern culture, there are only three asians in the movie, two of which are Indian… Zuko and Iroh (Kinda racist is if you ask me since the two Fire nation is apparently middle eastern looking. Terrorist?). The other guy is Korean, but his character is “Earth Bending Father”.
Also, M. Night sucks, and the happening was NOT good. His only good work was 6th sense, and maybe Signs… Stay tuned for Cowboy Bebop starring Keanu Reeves… I think I’m gonna be sick…
I know this one is going to suck nd pretty bad just by the teaser and the news about a sequel, just like books are put in movies, this epic series will fail in a movie. I would have been tons and tons better if it was a cartoon movie
Personally i am excited for this movie, everytime i see the fire nation ships it gives me chills. I know people on the internet are notorious for bombing other’s opinions but i am going to go out on a limb and say you guys need to chill and wait till the actual movie comes out before bombing it. The cast they picked looked passible and as long as they keep the charcters close to their personalities in the show, i will be happy. This reminds me of when i saw a trailer for Up and i thought it was a dumb premise as well, yet it turned out to be my most favorite pixar movie to date. So all i’m saying is give it a chance.

Well avatar is originally an american cartoon based on asain characters not an anime so it won’t be so bad (probabily). Of course DBZ would fail cuz it was an american company turning a japanese show into a live action movie. Well it all depends on the director and whether or not he watches cartoons.
Just letting you guys know… Keanu has already been confirmed to play Spike in Cowboy Bebop.
Also Prince of Persia should be coming out this year as well starring Broke Back Mountains Jake Gyllenhaal.
On a lighter note… if you want a good Adaption… check out Blood: The Last Vampire. Twilight ain’t got nothin’ on this…

It looks like this movie has a lot of potential, but M. Night Shamalyn or however you spell his name, hasn’t been doing really well with his movies. They always turn out to be incredibly hokey.

i dont get it…people always say that japanese anime always have asian characters. Thats not true. Look at Negima Mahou Sensei. He’s from Norway or somewhere out in those european countries. Not all japanese anime are asian. They may speak japanese but thats it. They dont only make characters of one ethnicity. Also i see AVATAR in this teaser trailer to have a good potential way better than DB Evo. They way they did the graphics in this trailers is similar to Lord of the Rings trilogy. It has that kind of “Fable LIKE” game graphics of midevil times. I would say it might be a good movie to watch. I would definitely watch this movie whether it sucked or not. It has good graphics and thats a good thing to reason about.

I don’t think it’s a very good idea and it already didn’t look anything like the start of the anime. That’s sad. why do they even try to make it into a live-action movie!!? I think that in animation you can do so many stuff without making the people(or anything else)look weird. BECAUSE YOU DRAW THEM THE WAY YOU LIKE. It’s pissing me off.

first of all, characters in dbz and avatar look white in the cartoon so who cares if they’re white. all i care about is if the keep the characters as similar as possible to the cartoon. db evolution was horrible and its preview looked horrible. this looks okay so far but M. Night Shymalan’s last few movies have sucked. If they stay true to the characters and their personalities, and of course throw a little action in, this might be interesting.

I think they should have cast the original voice actors for the live action movie, at least they resemble the characters more than the cast they have picked out for the movie. If you guys go to IMDB you can see a pic of Zuko. It doesn’t even look like him.

I could care less as long as the actors portray the characters perfectly in the movie, and at least we know Jesse McCarthy isn’t going to be Zuko. So shut up and watch the movie when it’s out and judge it after. It looks very promising, the effects look terrific.

not to contradict myself, but to earlier posts who think the characters aren’t, or were never declared to be asian, watch the Series again, this isn’t DBZ, or Japanese styled anime where the Characters were drawn with over exaggerated features. SO yeah, watch and post again telling me the Cities, Martial arts, landscapes, Names and Characters didn’t look Asian. If you don’t see it then I suggest you widen your knowledge of other Asian ethnicity’s and cultures.

Then stop drawing them as white kids in the animes. Background was maybe based on Asian cultures but for picking skin, eyes etc. There is nothing Asian about Aang.

1. American Cartoon, not Anime. Although it pretty much has anime style whitten all over it.
2. The cartoon NEVER depicted any types of RL ethnicity+color. They NEVER stated whose white/asian/black/hispanic/etc.

wow, some people need to grow up. It’s just a movie people…a movie about a cartoon. Could they be any more childish? What does it matter if ang is asian, white, indian, black, jewish, or whatever else they want to make him? I could maybe see an issue here if there was some reference to him being asian or a reason at all that him being asian is important. But there isn’t. There’s not some deep connection here between the show and them being asian. There’s no race card played in the show. They never emphasize it either way. For all purposes, them being asian or whatever they are doesn’t even make a difference in the show. I like anime as much as anyone else, but u guys need to lighten up. It’s not like they are making the movie Ghandi starring Mike Myers or something like that.

And as far as casting, how would america feel if say a new Batman movie came out with some unknown japanese actor as Bruce Wayne? the cartoon is an American television series and they set in asian martial art and elements from western, eastern and southern culure so you can’t just say its only asian or white w/e. who cares about the color? it will depend on how the actor or how it have been directed by the author of the movie. anywaze just wait and watch the movie and then you can judge whatever u guys want.

This looks better than DBE at least…I have higher hopes. Hopefully they don’t squeeze the entire 3 seasons in the movie. I’ve heard that the makers of Avatar are working closely with M.Night, which didn’t happen with DBE, so yeah, higher hopes.

based on the movements of Ang, it will suck. It’s no easy to capture super hero (super human) movements with just human on film who can only move so fast. The kid did NOT look asian. either. give me a fucking break.
I can walk out onto the street and find a cambodian, vietnamese or other kid who would like like Ang. And heck he’d proabbly know martial arts already.

Avatar aside, some of your comments are pretty freaking disturbing.
1. Many people who self-identify themselves as Asian descendants are also Americans. Stating Avatar has to be white because its an American cartoon is wrong, it implies only whites are Americans.
2. Acting is not a genetic trait, acting is a talent. Stating that people of Asian descent can not act is just plain wrong. Go stand in the corner.
3. “SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH”, is bad English. You should have said, “…speaks English well.” As you have proven, the English language has nothing to do with cultural identification.
4. Moses parted the Red Sea to deliver his people from bondage, not the Irish Sea. Of the nine major religions in this world Ireland isn’t mentioned once. So I’m not sure how the hell Mel Gibson became of Jewish decent.
5. Black, White, Red, and Yellow agree that Keanu Reeves sucks! How the hell does this guy keep getting roles? I don’t care if Keanu becomes a freaking chameleon, I will not see Bebop! Sigh…
Look man bottom line, the movie comes out next year which means anything can happen. M.Night can damn near change the whole cast by summer 2010, I’m pretty sure a lot of changes will be made between now and then. We all know Dbz was bad, thats in the past what we know now is that the people who did Dbz will not be doing Avatar so calm down lil dudes. All in all the teaser/trailer looks great and all we can really do is hope that the movie is great when it comes out (NEXT YEAR)!!!

Again I would like to point out that his ethnicity makes no difference as it wasn’t emphasized in the show and doesn’t really make or break the plot in any way. As long as he plays the part well, grow up and stop making everything a race issue.
And another thing. Why was Dragonball even brought up in this whole discussion? Seeing how they are 2 totally different movies with 2 diff producers and 2 diff directors and im almost certain that there will be very different actors also. The cartoon has 61 episodes and the movie is only one and a half hour long? How are they going to make it? Skip a lot of the good parts (since I think the entire cartoon is great, there isn’t an episode that disappointed me)?

1. Its not like there aren’t any Asians in the Cast, The entire Earth Kingdom is apparently Korean which means Toph is gonna have to be a little asian girl. Also, the Fire Nation seems to be made up of dark skinned Asians such as Filipinos and Indians… and I think one black guy… It does suck that there are no East Asian main characters other than Suki… If you even count that.
2. That being said… don’t u find it a little racist that the aggressors in this movie are gonna be mostly middle eastern looking guys? Sounds like terrorists or something.
3. Showing Aang in the air temple that’s being attacked by the fire nation already tells you that the story is being altered. I guess you could say its like the Northern Air Temple, but then why would there be so many fire nation ships, and where the hell is everybody else? Story is gonna change meaning angry fans.
4. What I seem to be hearing from everyone is that this movie might be good because of the CGI… hahaha, yeah. okay folks… that’s called wishful thinking.
5. Lastly this is clearly a little kids movie… meant for little kids and played by little kids. So I’m not gonna go crazy over this movie… I’m just not gonna watch it. Maybe when it comes out on DVD, I’ll watch it… shouldn’t be too long after it comes out… I can assure you its won’t spend a long time in theaters lol.

I have a feeling this is going to fail but I guess we’ll see when it comes out in 2010. Although I loved Sakka in the show, and if the guy who’s playing Sakka, isn’t funny like the Sakka in the cartoon show, then they failed on this movie. That’s all I’m going to say.
Sadly, I’m having a harry potter deja vous from watching this trailer. I love avatar don’t get me wrong.. but… *poof* harry potter. ^_^’ I just hope they’ll make the movie as awesome as the animated series.
