  4. Alice1861 replied, Comment #107868

So was the guy who came back a combination of both Luke and Asch? I mean I know that they were one guy to begin with, but when the Luke replica was made they each then experienced separate lives, right? Did Lorelai recombine them? I’m so sad!! I wish they’d both come back. Oh no, I’m crying again!!! Waaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m such a girl.

Any input from all of you would be really appreciated. Someone may have told me this before, but I have a tendency to be an airhead. I’ll write it down this time I promise!!!

Alice if you go to a number of different gaming websites its gonna be entirely hard to understand who came back BUT in game it actually hints that its our loveable luke. in game it says when both original and replica are gonna die to to replification…its possible that if one of them die that the other can absorb the others body and become whole. the thing is that its never fully explained. one of the best ps2 games ever

  13. Okami_Shiranui replied, Comment #107944

Thanks Jim and Okami. Now I’ve got to find the game for myself! Unfortunately, for me, I’ll probably get so hooked on it that I’ll forget to eat and die. Oh well. Hope I can find it!!!

  20. Okami_Shiranui replied, Comment #107989

okay i paid close attention to this ending and if the ending subbs are accurate its definetly our loveable luke hes talking one on one with Tear and even says i promised didnt i?

its official this game is a happy ending ^_^

  21. Bliss Of Silence replied, Comment #108025

The game is out for PS2 I believe, but I had an extremely hard time finding it and had to borrow it from a friend who got lucky and pre-ordered it.

As for those who are wondering, the game ends exactly the same way, with most of the scenes going just exactly like the game. Though I feel like the fight with Vandesdelca should’ve been extended… it was still nice to see him overpowering them for a bit, like a final boss should be.

If you enjoyed the anime, you will FOR SURE enjoy the game.
I myself am a proud player of it ^^
( over 300 hours of gameplay total, played over 3 times, and very few titles left to unlock ) - hehe, had to do a little showing off to prove my point.

-Explanation of some things people have wondered.-

Asch [ The Ashes of the Sacred Flame ] was meant as reference to him being the leftovers of when he was replicated into Luke, which in Ancient Ispanian ( in-game language or culture ), means Light of the Sacred Flame.

In the end, you can tell for sure that it’s Luke, though you did see that part where they purposely showed Asch’s hand twitching. It might’ve been foreshadowing the fact that maybe Asch and Luke are still separate entities, but Asch just isn’t shown… or maybe Asch and Luke have fused due to their fonon frequency being identical to the very last digit ( the game will explain this ). Anyway, the reason why you can tell that it IS Luke at the end, is because he mentions something about a promise ( the promise he made about coming back).

Though you may think they were kissing up to the fans about bringing Luke back, you can also think that there may be a possibility of Luke being kept from disappearing because of Lorelei acknowledging him for changing the future that he’d foreseen.

Hope that was enough for you guys ^^ and thanks pmflood1 for embedding all the episodes here. It was nice to have some place to go to, to watch them.

[ Never felt like commenting on other episodes due to the amount of people already submitting theirs, but this one was the last so I asked myself: why not? ]

oh and incase anyones wondering alot of the outfits you saw the characters where on the endings during credits are in game costume you can unlock through sidequests Gamefaqs.com has a walkthrough by fans if you need help or if you dont wanna miss anything.

  25. Hendawg replied, Comment #108121

wasnt it asch man because jade and guy both where happy but a bit disappointed? But the hairstyle was both asch and lukes and he had the white luke outfit and black ash outfit, So I am pretty sure they fused together, when u think about Yin Yang luke and asch are the same both opposites of each other plus black and white.

The promise though could be referenced to coming back but to tear and the others or was it the promise that asch made at the start to natalia?

  26. Hendawg replied, Comment #108125

dont think it was replica luke but original luke partly because tear asks him why he is here and jade and gai reaction, I think luke was dead the replica but the original luke came back so it cud be the promise he made either to natalia or tear

  27. Alice1861 replied, Comment #108251

Thanks so much Bliss of Silence. I totally agree with Okami, that was a great explanation! I still wanted to see both Asch and Luke come back as separate entities. Even though Asch could be a pain in the butt, I still loved his character and Luke went from being a spoiled, petulant baby to someone who was willing to die for his friends. I loved his character too. I really enjoyed this anime and I’m sorry that it’s over!!

  28. Pyr replied, Comment #108356

    Watched.

I think that’s fused Luke and Ache as well, perhaps with memories and feelings of both.

  29. Okami_Shiranui replied, Comment #108388

most likely its our loveable replica he wasnt talking to natalia when someone asks you why are you here and you say its because i kept a promise didnt i? he promised Tear right at the end he would come back…and the ending when he comes back tis all about tear and him at the moment

as for Jade i think jade wasnt dissappointed but happy. its not like we ever really saw jade smile or anything thats just his way of being happy and as for guy he was happy too. this is two years after the ending luke promised to come back and he came back. in the end its possibly a fusion of both original and replica originals body lukes memories.

now that i think about it what if when we saw aches hand move its possible luke being fused into Ache? that would make more sense he starts to glow and we get a close up of aches hand…idk i believe its luke the way the sword was on his back and how he speaks to tear about the promise

  30. Okami_Shiranui replied, Comment #108389

oh yea and if i remember right ashe never made a promise to tear

  31. Bliss Of Silence replied, Comment #109518

Yea, just as Okami stated; you wouldn’t tell someone about a promise that you made to someone else, especially when it’s 2 girls in question.

Luke and Asch aren’t really like Yin and Yang, but I suppose you do have a bit of a point. They are the same being, yet logically different because no matter how alike two things or beings are, there is no way they are the same down to the very core, in terms of thoughts, memories, etc.

Asch acted the way he did because ( if you play the game enough, or got what he was trying to show ) he knew that he would eventually disappear and tried not to get close to Luke or the others. It was to make it so he wouldn’t have a hard time to move around and do what he needed to do before he faded away.

There is actually an explanation to this, though I won’t spoil it for people who don’t know it yet since the fun of playing a game this epic is to get to know each character. There is a side quest in the game that starts after the first time you get to Baticul and before you head to the Abandoned Factory and recruit Natalia that will explain what may be happening to Asch.

As for the end where you see Jade smiling or somewhat grinning ( they tend to do a good job hiding Jade’s emotions in game and in the anime ) you will come to understand as you progress through the game that everyone originally didn’t like Luke before he changed indo the new “him”.

In my opinion, Jade has one of the funniest attitudes and personalities out of the whole game, though once you get to know all the characters, you’ll realize each of them have their own backgrounds and come to understand them. This is what makes the game all that much better; not one character is left out and you really feel like you know them.

But getting back to the point… yes you can tell it was a big jump for Jade to even show that he was happy at the end, and that was because Luke had become someone valuable to him as a friend.

The scenery was supposed to set up an atmosphere where it would be nice for everyone to just be calm, but when Luke shows up, you see everyone rushing to him surprised… it was the perfect set up.

Just a warning for those who choose to play the game…
Be ready to feel like you lost a part of you after you beat it hahaha. I still wish I could play again T_T

[ Yes I know I love to type a bunch, but I try not to bore people XD hope this helps solve some more of the confusion a few of you may have. ]

  32. Miyun replied, Comment #110158

I love Tear’s song. The seventh fonic hymn … but it also makes me sad. I ended up singing to myself. >> Pffth.
And I almost ended up crying too! The anime shows a lot more than the game … I love it. D:
I wish they’d show more after their journey though …

  33. Okami_Shiranui replied, Comment #110288

bliss of silence thanks for agreeing with me in the beginning of your post makes me feel good haha and i totally agree with everything you stated. the game really makes you feel like you know these characters and when i beat it i was just… heart broken that it was over lol

man all those side quests too i had to play the game numerous times to get everything XD i always ended up missing something haha

again great explanation! i kept on reading till the end

  43. rick hunter replied, Comment #118387

now luke can fooook both natalia and tear … what a lucky guy … lol

  44. Azarion replied, Comment #143276

Hrm… I think that the anime tends itself towards the Luke ending, that it’s mostly Luke with perhaps a bit of Asch in him. However… I personally disagree with the Luke ending for the game (though I hate myself for thinking like this XD -_-). According to the Contamination Effect sidequest in the game (the same Contamination Effect that Jade mentioned earlier that revolved around the refusing and splitting of his spear), there are conditions and blah that reverse the final process of what happens in the sense that if Luke is supposed to absorb Asch, then Asch actually absorbs Luke. The sidequest explains it well, with some additional info that isn’t in the anime (like those two cheagles at Ortion Cave… what happened there is essentially reversed for those of you who know). So in the game, it’s MORE likely that Asch survived and not Luke… mostly. Of course, miracles like Lorelai could change everything and make everything go out of whack and throw away all of our theories, but I think that’s actually what the creators of Tales of Abyss were going for when the made the ending for the game. But I must say, in the anime, I think it’s definitely more Luke than Asch, which I’m thankful for I must say. It makes me feel better than if Asch came back (no offense to him! It’s just… how it should be). But the game ending made me think more… Hrm… Anyhow, that’s just my two cents. The actual ending for the game has never been officially confirmed, so this is all just speculation and guesswork based on clues from the game itself.

I played the game over 5 times, and am proud to say Van became a cake walk on the hardest level Neblim though was a bit tougher. 7 hours of fighting with four players playing, to kill her but the reward is worth it. Keep the healers healing constantly, attack occasionally but always have someone distract Neblim. Luke, Tear, Anise and Jade make a pretty good team against her but I’m straying off topic. The episode was very well done and, even after five game plays the episode still makes me cry. This is one of the best games I’ve ever played.
