If you’re one of the people who saw the Wachowski brothers’ Matrix movies and thought, “Hey! They’re just ripping off Ghost in the Shell!”, have we got news for you:

DreamWorks is developing a new, 3-D live-action version of the story, best known as the 1995 anime movie that was based on Masamune Shirow’s manga franchise.
DreamWorks has tapped scribe Laeta Kalogridis to adapt the Japanese manga property “Ghost in the Shell.”

DreamWorks is making the futuristic police thriller as a 3D live-action film.

Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul of Seaside Entertainment are attached to produce and originally brought the project to DreamWorks.

Created by Masamune Shirow, “Ghost in the Shell” was first published in 1989. It went on to generate two more manga editions, three anime film adaptations and an anime TV series. The second anime film, “Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence,” was released in the U.S. by DreamWorks in 2004.

Jamie Moss was the original writer hired when DreamWorks bought the property last year.

Kalogridis wrote and exec produced Martin Scorsese’s upcoming thriller “Shutter Island,” which stars Leonardo DiCaprio. The live-action film is set to be released in 2011.

    No chance^^.
if made by U.S.A. than it’ll be definetly a crap just like then they tried making DBZ the movie.

But i’d like to see what they’ll screw this time.

For the love of God pray that DreamWorks is smart enough to cast Asians in the main roles!!

Let’s look at the recent history they will hopefully learn from: “Dragon Ball: Evolution”; “The Last Airbender”; “The Weapon”

Obviously it will be crap cause no one will accept the US making any movie adaptations of Japanese stories (and the fact that it will be really poorly made xD).

I just hope they don’t screw this one up! It is such a masterpiece!! And yes, the music is very important. It would be sweet if Yoko Kanno compose it.

Ok, they are wasting there time trying to make a re-make into a live version. I say leave one of the greatest anime shows/movies along before they fuck it up big time.

the movie’s coming out in around 4 months, so definitely not in 2011. It looks amazing nonetheless.

The wet suit looks like the one from Gantz, and so does the weapon…

  20. Eliel replied, Comment #160833

even if they don’t show nudity as long its bloody at least/or don’t tone down the violence…

  21. Frostyanime replied, Comment #161067

ok for those of you who are completely blind when you watch anime, characters DONT LOOK ASIAN. the majority of anime characters look american/european more then they look asian. i agree that dragonball sucked, though it was more because of how they did the story not the people who played the characters. i think that if they actually get some of the writers in from the manga/anime that the movie could be decent, since plot usually is the biggest fail for the live actions. also on a side note the person who directed DBZ isnt from the US

  22. AntiSpiral replied, Comment #161634

So tell me Frostyanime, what should Asian anime characters look like, humm? While you at it, tell all of us blind folks what Americans look like also, I’m dieing to know. While your look hard or an answer, take a look at this video:

i think the real issue is whether or not they will use japanese actors and will this in fact take place in japan… i don’t know of many foreign dreamworks titles. i just don’t want them to make it take place in new york fending off canadian refugees lol

  24. servando torres replied, Comment #163428

they better not fuck this masterpiece up. like they did with dbe, and it does not matter if the director is not from the us. they better not fuck up!
