  4. gex replied, Comment #41396

this zentraedi freezing at song is getting old … and y is that ship in the end there? where is this planet???

  5. justbrowsing replied, Comment #41398

The whole anime gives its throw backs to the original macross series and the other anime’s that fit it’s timeline…

I definitely dig the throw backs this anime gives to the other Macross stories.. especially the Zentradi characters looking like Khyron and Breetai…

Supposedly, that old ship is the original SDF-1… which was laid to rest on Macross island during the final battle (if i still remember, but someone help me out here), so they are pretty much on Earth. Keep in mind Macross Frontier is what it is… a ship that travels through galaxies while having a civilization within itself, focusing on a few key characters.

    HoLY HELL SDF 1 !!!!!

  7. Spyke replied, Comment #41428

    Just replying to Justbrowsing’s post;

Actually, if memory serves me right; the original SDF-1 was obliterated in the last episode of the The Macross Saga: Robotech due to a last ditch effort to defeat Kyron’s forces. Whatever did remain of the space fortress sunk into the ocean.

Well… I’m a little iffy on that last part about the ocean. It’s been so long since I’ve watched those episodes.

  8. Charun replied, Comment #41436

Well the Macross was standing in the lake in Macross Plus. It’s the hub for Earth’s defences.

  9. halosilentop replied, Comment #41438

lol keep an open mind mabye there are more than one :o!!!! great episode anyway (is macross just repeating itself

  10. justbrowsing replied, Comment #41448

    reply to Spyke

i don’t think it was obliterated… it did sink inside the lake within Macross island, but all the other Macross anime’s like Plus and 7 gave some reference to it that it was submerged. So that last part in this episode of Frontier, seeing how its about a good 50 years since the original.. maybe the lake dried up down in earth, revealing the SDF-1… the clip did show it all beat up, however i do remember it missing one of its shoulder canons in the original, back in the day.

god all this talk makes we want to watch all the macross’s

  12. randomDude replied, Comment #41469

yeah, the song stoping the fighting was lame at best. i do like how this one pays tribute to all the previous macross. it’s almost like a remake of the first macross with different characters.

anyone else notice Ranka’s protruding-little-fang thingie?

its indeed popular in recent anime, the little fang thing

But Ranka’s doesnt really fit well with her.

  17. legacy replied, Comment #41500

hahaha, love when ranka-chan sing. So nice. The part where is interesting is when some of the zentradi got nose bleed.

  18. Carnator replied, Comment #41512

SDF-1 like it was mentioned, appeared in the Macross city of Earth. The official site of frontier points out that the time line and cannon follows Macross 7.
If you look closely at the first episodes, when you see the fleets leaving earth and spreading through the galaxy you can see one of the planets in the graph is Eden… that’s where Macross plus takes place.
Next Episode is Memory of Global? He was the captain of SDF-1!!
and on the zentradi losing their will to fight. I think will always happen to those zentradi that have not been exposed to culture. It can’t get old, it’s one of the key fundamental elements of the first saga.
BTW, the ending song, is called “Do you remember love” written by the Protoculture, translated by Hayase, originally sung by Minn May. 0.0 The song that turn the tide of Space Ware 1 in the movie of the same name.

  19. rdl replied, Comment #41523

    it’s so strange… it’s the old macross i love… yet it’s all new… kudos to shoji kawamori!

  20. jasgripen replied, Comment #41533

remember that in the original macross, there was an episode where they were gonna capture the factory satelllite and then breetai and misa detected a ship similar to the sdf1 but they avoided it because it might be booby trapped just like how the zentradi encountered it in episode one of the original.

There is probably more than 1 sdf-1 type ship in the universe…protoculture existed eons ago and this must be an old relic of the many type of ships that remain….the protoculture were at war with the Protodeviln and their supervision army (Macross 7)

the sdf-1 macross as mentioned in the original series, was originally a supervision army ship..

so therefore, this is not the original sdf-1 macross….

  21. Mako replied, Comment #41543

@ Jasgripen: True there were other SDF style ships sent out into the universe and I’m not sure of those how many could transform. But only the original SDF-1 sported arms and if you’ll notice this one has the retro fitted AMD Carriers that replaced the DAEDELUS and PROMETHEUS.

It looks like the point of reference of the VF-25 in the Macross Frontier series is the Russian MIG-29, unlike in the old series it was the F-14 Tomcat.

  23. justbrowsing replied, Comment #41551

Yeah, your right.. there could be other SDF’s… Macross Plus and Macross 7 had branching storylines about the SDF-II, that it vanished somewhere in the galaxy. However, this episode.. it appears that it’s the first SDF-1, and it’s on planet Galia 4 (where this episodes current location is, not earth as i assumed initially).. so i guess part of the new story line is how did the SDF-1 get from earth (where it was laid to rest) to where it is now, Galia 4.

    Interesting..

  24. bears replied, Comment #41563

Perhaps this SDF-1 is an illusion put up for Altos sake and it could be a trial for him; to see if he can be a hero or can at least protect Ranka.

On the note of the SDF-1’s history it was used as a monument to macross city at the end of it’s life and in the movie “do you remember love” which ended the third robotech saga it was completely and totally blown-up.

My question is: Will they make references to all of the different series right up to macross 7 and then finish it all off with a revealing truth that links the entire history?.. Protoculture?

  25. Mako replied, Comment #41627

Macross and Robotech are two totally different stories. The only part of Robotech that has anything to do with Macross is the first part. After Kyron’s ship is destroyed in it’s failed attempt to destroy The SDF-1, Robotech and Macross have nothing to do with one another. Another thing Do You Remember Love as stated by Kawamori “never actually happened in the Macross continuity. Macross DYRL is an “entertainment documentary” of Space War I, sort of a “movie within a movie” meant to honor and remember the heroes of Space War One to those who didn’t live through it. The movie is very popular in the Macross universe and serves as an inspiration to some of the characters in Macross 7. But the story itself is completely fictional and merely based on “actual” events in the Macross chronology.” And one last thong The SDF-1 was never destroyed.

  27. Cash replied, Comment #41709

Ok… so the official ep guide says that the next ep will show Ranka and Alto discovering the wreckage of the original Macross after crash landing on Galia 4. Wreckage of the original Macross? Just 20 years earlier it was the center of the Earth defense net and the most important symbol of the N.U.N.S., so what the heck is it doing on Galia 4 all beat to hell? And no, Galia 4 isn’t Earth as Earth doesn’t orbit a Red Giant star, obviously. I’d buy them discovering the long lost SDF-2 Megaroad 1 that disappeared fifty years prior, but SDF-1 Macross? Gonna be interesting how they tie this one up.

  28. singh010 replied, Comment #41983

lol its not SDF-1 thats on earth it could be SDF-2 aka Megaroad 1 which was supposed to have disappeared or sumthin….

  29. singh010 replied, Comment #41987

or it could just be another macross. SDF-1 crashed on earth and was an alien ship till they rebuilt it. could be another macross based alien ship thingy.

  30. Alishstar replied, Comment #42980
