Life-Size Gundam Statue’s Special Effects Video

A visitor has posted a YouTube video showing some of the final touches on the 18-meter-tall (59-foot-tall), “life-size” statue of the Gundam anime robot at Tokyo’s artificial Odaiba island. The video demonstrates the mist-emitting devices, the sound effects, and the movements of the head unit. The statue, which will be officially on display from July to August, marks the 30th anniversary of the first anime series in the Mobile Suit Gundam space war anime franchise.

  8. speechless replied, Comment #124662

I thought it was going to do something more epic than turning its head, blow steam out of pipes and playing sound effects…
I really wanted it to start doing the moon walk on the roof then fly of somewhere :P

  9. AnonSmasher replied, Comment #124685

Well now thts interesting, turning head, smoking(Btw robots usually dont smoke cigars) and beeping like it about to blow up!

  10. Setsuna F. Seiei replied, Comment #124694

LOL at least i hope it can move its arms or legs is just fine with it and not doing the moon walk and flying

  11. RickAy replied, Comment #124698

  13. nai replied, Comment #124704

gundam cost too much to make,it too big to fight in the war and i really think it going really slow at moving. Think how much gas/power it going to need.

  14. viperbob replied, Comment #124711

nai first off if we come up with solar engines or w/e that can make them move at ^9000 mph and can shoot a gagillion rockets than fighting in a war is possible muhahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHA damnit come on usa we need to steal their tech. and rule the world hahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHA owell we can just fight terrorism some more without super cool robots

  15. AnonSmasher replied, Comment #124730

Hey Setsuna F. Seiei, srry to dissapoint but i dont think i tmoves it’s legs nor arms, only the MOTHERFCKING HEAD. All it can do is move it’s head, smoke cigars, nd beep like it’s bout to blow up…

  16. AnonSmasher replied, Comment #124731

Or mby it can move its arms, but not legs. But only 10x slower than it’s head -.-

  17. nai replied, Comment #124732

The gundam will fall down somehow and the impact will be too much for the hunman body but not for Heero Yuy lol lol lol !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. marlalee replied, Comment #126826

having this gundam stand for 2 months is unbelievable enough. GOD! this is ahhhhwsome!!! XD

  27. luxiun' replied, Comment #126895

To nai, I’m sure if an airplane can fall from over 18,000 feet than a human can withstand falling in a Gundam from much lower heights. Think about it, where would most of Gundam fights/flights be? Close to the ground, or up in space, (lol that’d be awesome) The cock pit would also be hydraulicly lifted so it would cushion a blow of falling or an impact, etc, and incase severe damage were done or the computer realizes damage would be done it jettisons you. (that’d be awesome.)

I may be dreaming, but hey.

Oh, and this shows that the company has a true love for their series. I can honestly say that I respect that 110% and I will support all Gundam Series in the future to come.

So.. i think we who watch gundam now have a new goal.. FULLY AUTOMATED GUNDAMS!!!!! just watch our generation take over the world with gundams.

  29. arches replied, Comment #127553

If it can handle lots of hit from rockets and bullets. This will be the best weapon to have.

  30. gundam replied, Comment #127731

It makes us look so small and vulnerable D:

  31. venomgoz replied, Comment #128844

Well guys i think that Asia has made Gundams and test them the only thing that remains is the upcoming war and we will see them in action! So lets wait till the next generation of weaponry of mankind.

    Cya all,
and support Gundams if u believe in them!

  32. Burning Finger replied, Comment #129723

This is impressive. I must pay credit to where it’s due. If this is what the future holds for humanity, then I can only watch. Gundams used as a means of war is absurd. If we are able to make gundams move like G Gundam or Gundam Wing, it won’t be for another 500+ years. The finances, power, technology, interiors of the gundam to be fit for humans, are only FEW things to worry about. Nonetheless, this is ery impressive, just making the head move and smoke come out. Now, just imagine how long it will take for EVERYTHING to move, not only efficiently but smoothly.

    Peace out! ^_^
