DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION Drops 66.9% on Second Weekend

Dragonball Evolution bombs on its first weekend with $4,756,488. Now on its second weekend on Friday the film made a horrible $1,575,000 and $722 per theater on Friday. It Dropped 66.9% from bad reviewers and a mad fan base online. The movie is now on track for the “top 100 all time biggest drops” for any movie from the first week of release. This should be a wake up call for Fox to halt any sequels and remake or never release another DB live action film till they get it right.

Careful guys. Variety made comments about the first opening week, and after telling the BO numbers it made a one sentence comment were it said that the numbers for the American box office is right were fox expected it to be. If this is the gray area they want to be in, no matter how much it epic fails, it may not necessarily be a blow to fox. If this is what they planned for, then nothings changed. Besides, if you look long enough online, you’ll find plenty of movie that have sucked box office wise that still have gotten sequel (a very, very small group, but evolution heading for that pile Alone in the dark is in, this may not be the end). While Box office number can’t tell us whether movies are good, neither can they always predict the crazy shit movie studios( and at the rate they are going with Air bender) we are far from done shaking are heads in shame.
(Side note)
While domestically box office sucks for this movie, oversea has been kinder. While no one country has saved this movie, together, they have brought in a fair amount of money. If the budget was truly 50 million, they have 36 to 37 million overseas with only 8 to 7 million short of 50 million total they need for this movie. Again while no one country will save this movie, with the number of countries waiting for the release of this movie, and most in their second week, they may start turning tidbits of profit soon. For all the people that hate this movie, pray that fox comes out and confirms a 100 million dollar budget and puts an end to the rumors, or this movie in fox’s mind will simply be a small money maker.

The reason why it dropped 77% was because of fan boys and bad reviews(and what I mean by bad reviews was that the reviews were epic fails). The movie wasn’t not as bad as it seems, I mean it wasn’t epic, but it was ok and I say a pretty good attempt at making a live action movie based off a japanese anime/manga. Oh btw, I have been a fan of the DB series since I was five, so don’t give me any “You don’t know what your talking about” bs.

look guys the movie sucked big surb and scuba stevee are right about the story but for the wrong reason the story doesn’t matter as much as long as you get the characters right i didn’t like how they did Goku they screwed up on goku and the special effects they would have done a good job if they used effects from star wars but even if the effects sucked like they did the only thing you need to do to make the movie sucessful is to not miss with Goku personlity because it that was what pissed me off and they could have made him asian but that doesn’t matter the way they did goku was wrong because goku is wat makes dragonball dragonball you can’t mess up the main character personility or you screw up everything

Spent enough time stiffing through Box office mojo website, you see a good number of movies saved or boosted by the foreign box office, you tend to see why studios cont. to make more movies like these. What fails here in the U.S.A doesn’t necessarily men the end of a movie. Besides, their are literally dozens of ways they can profit from this movie besides the box office (T.V. and DVD/Blueray being only two)No fox will make a profit from this, the question is whether they grate this movie over the coals or not until it make the movie back. Then they move on as if all the haters comments never existed and do it all again. So blog comment can destroy a movie, but never Hollywoods desire to make more movie like DBE.

MOVIE was epic failure. SURB AND STEVE can go eat eachother and die for defending this movie. just like to point out that the second D&D movie was better than the first, that is all.
Probably one of the largest reasons, for this movie’s lack of success(in my opinion), is the fact some numb skull posted a somewhat blurry recording of pretty much the entire movie on this website. No one went to go see the movie because they already saw it online. As for it not following the story line of the animated version, nothing, NOTHING, ever follows the same story when it is put into a live action movie.
First thing you should know: this is NOT anything like Dragon Ball, the series it’s based on. They completely abandoned Dragon ball itself and just borrowed the characters. Then on top of that, they changed the characters’ personalities and cut others out completely. For example: Goku’s innocence is completely cut out and has been replaced by a whiny school kid with rage issues who’s picked on for being ‘weird’ and different’ even though he’s exactly like them. (Example: He whines to his grandpa that everyone picks on him, then says there are times he wants to just rip them apart with his own hands). Later in the movie, when he gets into his ‘gi’ (which looks like a gi-themed pajam shirt with a little black belt, brown pants and knee-high ribbed black boots) he looks less like Goku and more like Aang from Avatar. Swear to God. Plus he doesn’t have a tail. At all. Not even in his Oozaru (Great Ape) form. And speaking of Oozaru, he’s only seven feet tall and looks like a cross between a gorilla and a werewolf. Plus the transformation is triggered by an eclipse rather than the full moon AND he’s controlled by… well, read on.
Bulma is unrecognizeable. In fact, if you didn’t know her name was Bulma, you wouldn’t ever know who she was. She’s been dressed up like a biker chick and has this ‘rush into battle with guns blazing’ attitude and is HUNTING Piccolo because he stole her father’s Dragon Ball. Riight, considering the fact that she was a ‘girly-girl’ that was always primping, dropped a gun after getting off two shaky shots and was Dragon Ball hunting simply because she wanted to wish for the ‘perfect boyfriend’… doesn’t that sound just like her?
Chi-Chi is essentailly a shallow rich girl who completely ignores Goku (who’s been trying to get her attention for a while) and hangs with the jerks that mock him. UNTIL, that is, she sees he can use Ki, then she’s all over him because suddenly, he’s valueable.
Yamcha feels like he exists simply becaus ehe has to (then again, most of them do). He’s been lowered to the level of a shiny red leather-clad bleach-blonde dude that digs holes in the desert and waits for people to fall in so he can offer to pull them out for cash. And bing bang boom, Bulma instantly has the hots for him, and vice verse.
Roshi’s been altered from a 200 year-old master that was there when Piccolo first arrived and was also Gohan’s master to some drunken middle-aged man living in the inner city that only knows the story of Piccolo because it was handed down to him by his master (y’know, the guy who actually died sealing Piccolo in the first place). And his infamous perv level has been lowerd to some innuendo at the most.
Now Piccolo… he’s been made impotent. He barely comes off as threatening, he’s some weird shade of white-ish green and his fangs were exagerrated to the point that he looks like a vampire. Plus he’s clad head to toe in leather body armor. (In fact, almost everyone in this movie is in leather at some point) On top of that.. he KNOWS he’s a namek already, and that Goku’s a Saiyan, he’s supposedly the LEADER of the Nameks, who are supposed to be all evil and enslaved at least some of the Saiyan race, and his attack occurred not 200 years ago, but 2,000 years ago WITH an Oozaru in tow because, guess what? he can CONTROL them! And the Oozaru that was with him 2,000 years ago? it’s none other than Goku himself, or so he implies anyways. (Don’t bother asking, they never explain how).
Then there’s the big Kamehameha at the end, and here we see just how pathetic Piccolo really is. See @#$%u FORCES himself out of an Oozaru transformation and gets uber strong, Piccolo taunts him and powers up a big blast, Goku powers up a kamehameha and fires it, then JUMPS up toward Piccolo, goes through his blast, Piccolo gets hit, then Goku reaches him and punches him, Piccolo its his head on a big rock and just lays there. That’s it. And all evidence of Piccolo mysteriously disappears, as if he was dead, right down to his missing flying office building sized fortress. But then, a little ways into the credits, we get a bonus scene of a girl treating someone injured in this bed that turns out to be a still living Piccolo, as if you were dumb enough to believe something like that KILLED Piccolo.
Now, the ki effects are ALL lousy, but the Kamehameha is especially. It looks like a rush of air with blue smoke tracers in it, and it’s fired only after doing some sort of dance that looks like something out of Power Rangers when they pull out the morphers. And the whole thing is handled so cornily and acted so badly, it’s almost funny. Oh yes, and the Kamehameha has become QUITE versitile. Roshi uses it to bring Goku back to life at one point.
In short: Save your money and go see something worthwhile. Or better yet, check out the original series they stole this from. It’s infinitely better than this.

Dragonball Evolution is both a terrible movie and a horrible adaptation of the Dragonball series.
Without taking the Dragonball Z series into consideration, this movie is just terrible. Poor acting, a weak story, cheap special effects, and plot holes out the wazoo make this an exceptionally bad movie.
As a dragonball z fan this movie is an abomination. The story is so off from the originial series that it sickens me, there is no reason for the movie to differ from the original story so much. There is virtully no character development, and the personas of DBZ are one of the reasons so many have come to love the show.
1. Krillin, Gokuu’s best friend was not in the movie. Epic fail.
2. Piccolo looked like some cheap wanna be vampire bitch.
3. Where was Gokuu’s tail?
4. When the hell did the kamehameha become an air bending technique?
5. The dragonballs were created by a namek named Kami, piccolos other half.
6. There was very little action and the fights that took plae were terrible, DBZ is ALL about FIGHTING, very fast paced action. The movie lacked this.
7. Gokuu is not some skinny little kid that doesn’t fit in.
I could go on and on but in the end its still just a terrible movie. What a shame that such a beloved show had to become one of the most terrible motion pictures and film adaptations of all time.
Sad to say this movie pretty much ruins the chance for DBZ to ever have a succesfull movie, after veiwing the trash known as Dragonball Evolution who is ever going to want to see antoher dragon ball movie?

well the Us numbers are horrible(due to lack of promo) and if the US numbers makes you happy, then I wouldn’t look at the overseas numbers, they are solid. whether you like or hate the movie you can’t argue with the numbers
my real problem with the movie was the runtime, too short

This is to Big Surb, yeah its based on Dragonball not DBZ. But so fucking what? It still dosen’t follow the original story, hell its not even in the spirit of the original story. Its not like they just changed a few minor details here and their, the only thing this movie has in common with Dragonball is the names of the characters. They took Son Goku and turned him into a generic angsty teen. Even if you try to judge this movie on its own merits it still fails. James Wong is and always has been a hack director, the Final Destination series was trash. Stephen Chow should have directed this, it would have been an entertaining movie. This movie was nothing more than an attempt to cash in on the dragonball name, and nothing more. I’m glad that it failed.
